Every spring, Washington, DC transforms into a spectacular sea of pink and white as thousands of cherry trees bloom around the Tidal Basin. The National Cherry Blossom Festival is one of the city’s most anticipated annual events, celebrating the enduring friendship between the United States and Japan, and honoring the historic 1912 gift of trees from Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo.

2026 National Cherry Blossom Events

The 2026 National Cherry Blossom Festival runs from March 20 to April 12, 2026, featuring four weeks of cultural events, performances, and celebrations.

March 21, 2026 | Opening Ceremony

5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
Warner Theatre

A unique and spectacular performance by world-renowned artists honoring the US-Japan friendship. This event officially kicks off the festival season.

March 28, 2026 | Blossom Kite Festival

National Mall

A vibrant, family-friendly celebration filling the sky above the Washington Monument with colorful kites, music, and outdoor activities.

March 28 – 31, 2026 | Predicted Peak Bloom

Tidal Basin

Capitol Riverfront / Navy Yard

A lively outdoor street party celebrating spring with live music, engaging art installations, and family-friendly activities, culminating in a spectacular fireworks display.
